Jackson County’s tennis teams swept rival Jefferson March 28 in non-region action. The Lady Panthers earned a decisive 4-1 win and the Panthers a 3-2 win.
Jackson County’s girls dominated, with No. 1 singles Skylar Xiong earning a 6-3, 6-1 win, No. 2 singles QuyLan Johnson earned a pair of 6-1 victories and No. 3 singles MaiXuan Johnson won 6-0, 6-4. No. 1 doubles team of Lila Threadgill and Mollie Lynn won 6-3, 6-1.
On the boys’ side, No. 1 singles Jarrett Burch overcame a first-set loss to win 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6),while No. 3 singles Luke Hayes rolled easily to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. No. 1 doubles of Harrison Chan and Elijah Lai won 6-2, 6-2, securing the victory for the Panthers.
Before beating Jefferson, the Jackson County girls defeated Clarke Central, 4-1, on March 25.
No. 1 and 2 singles Skylar Xiong and QuyLan Johnson each earned 6-0, 6-0 victories Tuesday, while No. 3 singles MaiXuan Johnson earned a 6-0, 6-1 win. In doubles play, No. 1 combination of Lila Threadgill and Mollie Lynn earned a 6-1, 7-6 win.
The Region 8 tennis tournament is being held this week.
